I am first and foremost a mom to four amazing kids and the wife of an awesome guy (we’ve been married 20 years). My first love is family, my second: nutrition. I graduated form Brigham Young University (a long time ago) with a degree in nutrition and dietetics. I currently live near Salt Lake City, Utah – I grew up here, left for sunny San Clemente, California for ten years, and then came back.
I love to read (my current favorite book is “Unbroken”). I also really like skiing in the winter, and in the summer, my absolute favorite thing to do is to go boating and surf off the back – so fun! If I could travel every month, I would, but I can’t (I am a mom, after all), so I do it as often as I can (favorite places traveled to so far are Salzburg, Austria and Cape Town, South Africa). I also actually like to do the day-to-day stuff moms do (don’t judge!): laundry, cleaning (a little on the obsessive side), cooking (I’m really good at it), and working out (most days I crave it, some days I despise it – it’s a love/hate relationship). When time allows, I also really like to just kick back, eat popcorn, and watch a really good movie (…and sometimes reality TV ).
I really enjoy spending time in my home (when it’s clean). It’s my sanctuary and some pretty amazing things in my life happen here. My two favorite place are my kitchen and my gym – I probably spend the most time in these two places. In my kitchen, I love creating food, recipes, meals, treats, snacks…everything and anything edible to bring people to my home and gather my kids and family to one place. I also love my home gym. I don’t have to get in the car and drive, I simply walk down the stairs and voila…I’m there. My favorite workouts are when I blast my stereo and make up my own Tabata style workouts. Nothing like workout-induced endorphins to bring instantaneous happiness!
I have been a Registered Dietitian for 17 years. The thing I like the most about being a dietitian is that I get to share valid, factual nutrition information. I really believe in sharing information that is real – not trendy, just honest factual concepts that are tried, tested, and true. I don’t believe in fads and I don’t believe in dieting. I believe in a lifestyle that promotes overall health. If you’re into that as well, stay a while! Sit down, read my blogs, and hopefully you’ll learn some pretty cool information along the way!
